A small 6-eyed spider with a hinged, bellows like abdomen, orange brown to ochre coloured, shiny, with a domed cephalothorax. Body length subadult male 2.2mm. Found in moist areas, often in leaf litter and under rocks, also on low, moist foliage. In the subfamily Oonopinae, Xestaspis was split from Oonops by Simon in 1884. The type species is X. loricataL. Koch 1873. Species of Xestaspis most closley resemble those of Gamasomorpha, from which they differ by the modified anterodorsal edge of the booklung covers, which bears a remarkable pointed tubercle. The body is heavily sclerotized, the carapace moderately high, with six well developed eyes, the endites lack any conspicuous modifications, with a complete' set of abdominal scuta, and legs without obvious spines.
