A species known in all coastal parts of eastern Queensland and likely to be recorded elsewhere in eastern Australia. This species is large and robust, common in most habitats along the coast, from brigalow scrub to rainforest. It is the bigger of the two common brown jumpers, lacking S. thoracica's characteristic circles at the rear end of the abdomen. It is often encountered in suburban gardens ♀ 9mm ♂ 9mm
