Tetragnatha rubriventris Doleschall, 1857 Red-bellied Long-jawed Spider

The species name means red underneath but this is not particularly diagnostic, many are thus endowed. More helpful is the eye arrangement. In this species all eyes are small and widely separated, the rear row narrower than the front row and moderately curved towards the rear. The jaws are bigger than the cephalothorax (head and chest segment). Like Tetragnatha nitens this species has extremely long slender palps. photo: greg anderson ♀ 12mm ♂ 10mm
