This genus was originally named Rubrius by Simon in 1903, presumably for the obvious red colouration. Lehtinen changed the name to Namandia in 1967. The only described species is Namandia periscelis from Tasmania. The genus is probably widespread along the eastern Australian coast in areas with good rainfall.
