A large lynx spider in Northern Australia in most types of habitat, favouring grasses. The abdomen has distinctive markings resembling those of O. elegans but this spider is much larger. It has an extended tip to the palp like others in its group e.g. O. macilentus. Abundant when found and with a range into neighbouring countries to the north as suggested by the name. Thanks to Bush Blitz, a partnership led by the Australian Government, involving the global resources company BHP Billiton, not-for-profit conservation research organisation Earthwatch and rangelands survey group the National Scientific Reference Site Network. Specimens of O. papuanus were collected by the Bush Blitz Fish River expedition. ♀ 9mm ♂ 8mm.
